Google Maps favourite mobile phone app, say figures Google Maps topped a list of mobile phone applications with 6.4 million users, followed by Yahoo’s weather app and Facebook, figures have revealed.

The GSMA and comScore research reveals that in April, 40% of mobile broadband users used apps on their mobile phones.Google Maps was a clear frontrunner, reaching 73.3% of mobile phone app users, while Yahoo drew 3.6 million users and Facebook 3.5 million.The rest of the top five was also made up by Google – with Google Mobile and YouTube showing the search engine’s popularity with the 21.8 million mobile broadband users.Henry Stevens, Media Director at GSMA, said: “Apps have become an important entry point for accessing content on mobile devices and their usage will only increase with the rapid proliferation of smartphones.”Revealing the extent to which Brits can now rely on their mobile phones, Apple recently unveiled an app which allows users to pay for their bill at Pizza Express restaurants without visiting a till.This was announced at the same time as O2, Vodafone and Everything Everywhere joined for a new venture to help more goods become available for customers on their mobile phones.
