Netflix – Wal-Mart Class Action Lawsuit

0

If you’re a current or former Netflix customer, you probably received an e-mail Wednesday about a class-action suit involving the price of online DVD rentals.

Well, it’s legit.

It’s the latest twist in a legal saga pitting consumers against Netflix and Wal-Mart. The two companies had agreed to work together to boost DVD sales for Wal-Mart and DVD rentals for Netflix. Now, both companies are the target of a class-action suit claiming the deal was an illegal conspiracy to inflate prices.

Wal-Mart has since decided to settle and pay out more than $27 million in cash and gift cards, but subscribers may take home pennies after the lawyers are paid. Netflix is still fighting the case.
