Poor broadband connection ‘frustrating for rural residents’ A poor broadband connection is one of the biggest frustrations for rural communities, a new report has found.

The Wales Office Minister David Jones released the findings from a taskforce which investigated broadband issues in rural areas, the BBC reports. He called it “absolutely crucial” to everyone in homes and businesses in rural Wales.”Good access to the internet is something that is going to be necessary to sell houses, to set up businesses, even, eventually, to retain public services,” Mr Jones told the news provider. An interactive map revealed by Ofcom last week showed that over half of the local authority areas in Wales are in the lowest division for broadband access. This followed a statement from Ben Underwood, Director of the Country Land and Business Association in Wales, who said that broadband shortfalls were preventing the success of businesses in Wales. The Ofcom map also revealed that, in the UK as a whole, almost 70% of homes and businesses (68%) have a fixed broadband connection with average speed of 7.5 Mbps.
