Brighton Pride to introduce entrance fee
0Pride in Brighton and Hove will charge partygoers for the first time this year, bosses have revealed.
In the biggest shake-up of the event for years, Preston Park will also be fenced off and the number who can enjoy it will be capped.
Organisers say the decision to host the “very different” event has been made after concerns over the safety of the park last year when more than 160,000 people attended.
They also failed to raise enough money last year to cover the £350,000 it costs to stage Pride.
The move will mean that the numbers who can attend the park will now be reduced, although staff still need to discuss the plans with the emergency services to decide how many people the site is suitable for.
The annual parade will be run as normal.
Last night Pride bosses attended a meeting with a group which had drawn up a rival bid to host the 2011 event.
A statement was later released by Brighton and Hove City Council on behalf of all parties, saying that all agreed to move forward with Pride’s plans.
